Combat Antenna

Back when I was a kid, I read a lot of the DC war comic books.

Sgt. Rock was one of my favorites.

Whenever Sgt. Rock and his platoon were patrolling and he sensed danger, he would say something about his “combat antenna” going off.

The grizzled sergeant didn’t have actual antenna sprouting from his steel pot, but what he did have was experience and a self-preservation instinct…things that kept him and his platoon alive during combat.

Some of you that may know me in person, or from FacePlant, or here, or other places on the intardnets, might be wondering just what the hell is going on with me.

What’s up with all the right-wing militia and war-like posts and images?

Well friends, I’ll tell you.

I’ve got a real bad feeling.

Maybe I’ve been listening to too much talk radio.

Maybe I’m reading too many right-wing websites.

Maybe my brush with “The System” this summer has something to do with it.

Maybe I’m finally waking-the-fuck-up.

My spider senses have been very accurate lately, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my short 48 years converting oxygen to carbon dioxide, it’s that I need to follow my gut instincts.

Due to recent events, I've started having real thoughts of Shit Hitting The Fan (SHTF).
I don't really consider myself a "prepper," and the fact is that I can barely afford to live day-to-day as it is where I am in the suburbs, and I realize I'm a little late to the party.
But...I had a VERY interesting discussion with a brother-in-law, (former Army tanker), who lives in Kentucky and recently purchased 30+ acres of land out in the boonies.
We discussed SHTF and how I would like to displace to this area if necessary.

He was VERY agreeable to this, and he showed me the Google Earth image of the property.
My first comment upon seeing the image was something like, "Nice! One way in, terrain easily defensible on three sides due to natural obstacles, a fresh water source, room for a shooting range, livestock, gardening, etc..."
I asked him, "When can I and my family move in?"
I was mostly serious, and I'm pretty sure so was he.

Am I losing it?

What’s going on in this country is not good.

It didn’t start with Obama, but it is steam rolling now, and the signs are everywhere if one is paying attention.

I won’t bother to list these indicators for you.

There are many sites and sources available done by guys and gals who are much smarter and more capable than I.

Look for them.

Read them, and get ready.

If nothing else, be prepared mentally for what is to come.

That’s what I’m doing anyway.

I can’t financially afford to store more than a week’s worth of food, nor can I afford to purchase stockpiles of whatever I may need to protect my family and myself for long periods.

But, I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and I have some plans…which is more than half the battle in my opinion.

I’m at least thinking about it seriously.

I am peacefully waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I hope it never happens, but, in another way, I almost wish it would hurry up and happen, and we could get down to business.

Hurry up and wait.

The suspense is killing me, I guess.

In the meantime, I’ll stay vigilant, watch what’s going on around me locally, and pay attention to national and international events.

If it happens, it won’t be good.

It will probably be messy.

Some of us might not make it.

Some folks say, "Why worry about it?  Vote for the candidates who best reflect your ideas and values and move on with life.  Go to protests and demonstrations and make your thoughts known to the powers-that-be."
A couple of years ago, I attended one of the first national Tea Party/9-12 events ever held here...the first one Glenn Beck got going.

There was sobbing and bullshit grandstanding, along with the local organizer surreptitiously pimping his plumbing business.

It felt like a high school pep rally.

All this is fine, I guess, but not what I was looking for.

It didn't get my blood flowing.

I was in the mood to hear a fiery speech and kick somebody's ass, but they wanted to hug each other and hold hands.

Fuck that.

Regarding attendance at protests and demonstrations...the commie-libs gather in large numbers for their causes because most of them don't WORK for a living like WE do.

I suppose if I sucked on the government teat to support my family, I'd have more time for rabble rousing.

I ain't afraid of shit, but I need to feed my family.

If/when the ruckus starts, I'll meet you all on the village green...right after I shoot a few squirrels out of the trees for my family's supper.

Keep your powder dry.

Semper Fidelis.

  1. Best "reactions" list EVAH....

  2. From someone already in the Bluegrass State.
I have 35 acres, it is still tough to prep, it takes money.
Best of luck to you and your brother.

  3. I have a suggestion.

You probably won't like it - others haven't - but I'll make it anyway.

All I ask is that you give it SERIOUS consideration - and I believe if you REALLY do so, with an OPEN MIND, you'll see I'm right!

Join the Free Shit Army! Get your "Fair Share" of milk from the teat of Uncle Sugar!

I know all of the reasons why you won't want to - I feel them too - but AT THIS POINT it's really stupid NOT to!

Full Disclosure:I TRIED, but they turned me down - seems we make too much money to "qualify."

    Think about it:
    (1) The Republic as we know it is DEAD, so you're not hurting Her at all.
    (2) The Enemy sure doesn't hesitate!
    (3) If enough of us did this, we'd bring this sickness to an end that much sooner!
    (4) Unlike The Enemy, *YOU* actually WORKED for money that they STOLE from you! Where's the shame in taking PART of it back?
    (5) You can then use whatever FSA-dollars you get to enable your preps! Wouldn't it be nice to be able to spend a few hundred dollars a month on storage-food?
    (6) MOST IMPORTANT: Do you want to risk watching your child starve someday, wishing you'd taken what you could to prepare for this?

  4. Am I losing it?

I would do it if feasible at this time. Old SGT. Rock goes further back than your age as I used to read him also. In fact, I learned to read by looking at comic books. My father was a country doctor/cattle farmer. Each afternoon he would go to the farms and would buy me a funny book for opening the gates.:)

Feel free to comment away with your bad-ass selves.

Cursing and foul language is fine...even encouraged here. In fact, I think cussing is fucking wonderful.

Just remember...this is MY house, and I will not be insulted or maliciously messed with here.

Good-natured ribbing is cool, but if you and I don't have some kind of previous relationship, you had best mind your fucking manners or I will relegate you to the intardnets dustbin for being a cunt.

To know me is to love me.

Or something.
